Final Thoughts.

So in this assignment I was aiming to create a work that changes the way an object is perceived. I wanted this to be executed in a way that the original object could still be identified, yet its original purpose flipped on it's head.
I
wanted this object to talk about wine, because that’s what it makes me think
of. I struggled with constructing a wine glass so I started thinking about the
wine itself and then came up with the wine/light pattern Idea. I thought because of
the nature of the materials an abstract work could be more successful, allowing
chance to play a larger role. The chance aspect is the patterns that occur, I use
those lines that occur by chance and I intervene by creating the sculpture from
these lines. The first attempt was not what I had in mind at all.
Honestly, I'm pretty bummed with how it turned out. I found that I couldn't manipulate this material to convey my ideas. As I used this material I became more and more familiar with the way it interacts yet it was still a really challenging material to work with. The intrinsic quality that I wanted to explore was its interesting materials but I couldn't manage to make something that was aesthetically pleasing.
I
think if I had used a material with a more rigid structure then a more
interesting sculpture could have evolved. The nature of the metallic plastic is
that it wasn’t overly malleable, yet repetition of the object wouldn't yield a strong structure to create a form with.
BRAIN WAVE
there is still 100 goon bags around, use them to make a big fun metallic pom pom to play with because goon bags should not be taken seriously. Clearly
