PART 2 - responses

These were sent to me over the snapchat account anarmslength - this was the response to some of the small posters that I put around town.

There were quite a few photos that were sent to through snapchat that I can't document as I didn't know how to save them! So that was a bit irratating but I managed to download a "snap saver" app that allows me to keep the photos that are sent through,

I was pretty happy with the response! I wonder if it were the curiosity that was the driving factor to reply? It was also interesting to note that of all the small posters put up... there were conversation invites, selfies invites and then the eye or belly button photo requests. The eye posters had a large picture of an eye, perhaps it was this simple visual aspect that people found it was easy to respond to.

I need to print of my disposables now!

So now that I have discovered that people can respond to strange invites that don't yield a reward I need to think about what effect the responses can have. Obviously there is that aspect of chance, but is there a direct instruction/question that I can ask that will create a collective feeling.

Initially when I was brainstorming what to write on the small posters I thought that I could ask for different body part photos and construct images of people through the photo pieces. But I did not execute the instructions well enough.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS

I was not able to observe peoples reactions to the posters but its clear that the eyes were the most successful. The least successful were the posters that asked people to share something about themselves using words.. eg what is your favourite place?

The Cameras!

These first three photos I took so that I could fill up the rest of the film and I included them here becauuusseee this is what I thought the response might resemble.

One above is ma favourite for sure

These are great - I'm really happy with the responses.
BUT
I think that I am so happy with them because each photo is a small response to what I put into a public space and hence each photo feels like a gift. But in terms of a result there are a few things that I would change.

What didn't work.
Only I can see the photos.. once the film is all done.
It costs $10 to develop a roll of film with 24 shots on it.
not much variation in location
experiment conducted in holidays - not as many students hangin rounnd
no coherence in the result, its still so fragmented even when the images are against one another.

What worked.
The grainy effect looks cool
Each response is individual
the result was a surprise

How to push this question/response Idea further.
Let the responses link up to create something stronger.

So I think that a really cool project would allow the response to join together with other responses.
